The Solux task lamp, in our opinion, is without peer, due largely to the design's use of the MR16 Solux lamp.  It doesn't hurt to have something in your workspace that looks really cool, too.  If you're going to purchase a task lamp, this is the right one.  The low voltage transformer plugs directly into the power source; and the articulated arm(s) and lamp head allow exceptional positioning of the light.  Enjoy doing paperwork or other fine work, especially if excellent contrast and superb color rendition are important.  

There are several fluorescent task lamps that we have noticed lately.  The main feature is a 5000 Kelvin compact fluorescent lamp (bulb) or a 6500 Kelvin compact fluorescent lamp ("Daylight").  A 6500K light source is slightly "cold" in appearance; and a 5000K light source is probably more appealing to more people, in our opinion.  Both of the fluorescent sources mentioned here lack the "sunny disposition" of the Solux Task Lamp in light color,  but it is important to note that the Solux 4700K lamp is not noticeably "yellow" in use.  Try looking at some of the product pictures on our website that look like they might have been photographed on a "wood grain" desktop using direct electronic flash.  These photos are made on the desktop right here under a Solux Task Lamp and using a digital camera.  No manipulation of color is ever necessary.  In some applications, the diffused light of a compact fluorescent bulb might be preferable, but we find that the directional characteristic of the halogen light source is more pleasant and adjustable.  

If a transformer for a Solux Task Lamp should ever fail, transformers are readily available.  The procedure for the "repair" is to unplug the transformer from the wall, unplug the cord from the transformer, plug the cord into the new transformer and plug the transformer into the wall.  We get an excellent response from EIKO LTD. if there are any warranty issues.
